About the Dutch levels: MBO is senior secondary vocational education, HBO is a university of applied sciences and WO is a research university. We take interns at all three levels.
WHY AFTERSERVICE?
We take on a few interns every semester, because it works both ways. You learn how software development goes in practice, with code reviews, a deployment pipeline and users who have an opinion about your work. We get someone who asks the questions we have stopped asking. You get a mentor who is a developer, you sit with the team and you join the daily stand-up. Two former interns now work here.
WHAT DOES AFTERSERVICE DO?
We reduce electronic waste by helping companies get the most out of their hardware. Our customers use our system to keep track of which devices are used by whom. Their employees can order, replace and repair devices themselves. By using that data well, we recommend choices that extend the life of a device instead of replacing it.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Our system is written in Ruby on Rails, with AlpineJS for front-end interaction, TailwindCSS for styling, PostgreSQL as our database and Redis for background job processing. We agree on what exactly you will work on before you start, so that it fits your programme and your learning goals.
MBO
You help build new features, pick up issues yourself, write tests and learn to work with Git, code reviews and a deployment pipeline. You take part in the team as a full member.
HBO
You get your own sub-project within the platform, from the research to the go-live, with a research component you can use in your report.
WO
You work on a graduation project with a real research question. Think of data analysis on our device data, or predicting when a device needs repair or replacement.
WHAT WE ASK
- You are enrolled in a software development, computer science or closely related programme.
- You know the basics of programming. Any language is fine, you will pick up Ruby here.
- You are in our Eindhoven office at least four days a week. This is not a remote internship.
- You dare to say when you do not understand something.
- Dutch or English, either is fine. Part of the team is international.
- You are already studying in the Netherlands. We work from our office in Eindhoven, so this is not a remote internship and we do not support relocation from abroad.
Experience with Ruby on Rails is not required. Almost no intern starts here knowing Rails.
WHAT YOU GET
- An internship allowance of € 350 per month (MBO) or € 500 per month (HBO and WO) for a full time internship.
- A commuting allowance: either a public transport card, or the maximum tax free mileage allowance if you come by car or bike. Whichever suits you best.
